Details: She was born May 9, 1942 in Mitchell County to the late Lee and Vergie Street Hughes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Jean Odom.
Mrs. Goodnite was a retired school teacher from Caldwell County Schools. She was a member of Hudson United Methodist Church, where she was in the church choir, United Methodist Women’s Ministries. She was also past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry T. Goodnite of the home; three sons, Jason E. Goodnite and wife Jennifer of Kings Mountain, N.C., Justin N. Goodnite and wife Susie of Princeton, West Virginia and Jared D. Goodnite and wife Jamie of Mebane, N.C.; one brother, Jones E. Hughes and wife Phyllis of Bakersville; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Rae Brown and husband Clyde of North Wilkesboro and Mrs. Treva Hughes Foster and husband John of Sherrills Ford, N.C.; brother-in-law, Arnold Odom of Bakersville; three grandchildren, Emma, Charles and John; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 12, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Pauls Freewill Baptist Church, 521 Blevins Branch Rd., Bakersville, N.C. conducted by Rev. Roger Laws and Dr. Timothy Brittain. The body will be placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow at Hughes Family Cemetery, Bakersville, N.C.
The family will receive friends Sunday, November 11, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Jason Goodnite, Justin Goodnite, Jared Goodnite, John Foster, Martin Brown and Mark Jenkins.
