No Recount in Yancey Commissioners Race

Republican candidate for Yancey County Commissioner Duane Cassida will not ask for a recount after canvassing showed him still 35 votes behind third place contender Democrat Jim Edwards. The Yancey County Board of Elections completed the inspection of 109 provisional ballots late this afternoon, finding 55 ballots acceptable while rejecting the rest for various legal reasons. The final tally showed Edwards receiving a total of 4587 votes while Cassida wound up with 4552 votes. Republican Jeff Whitson was officially declared the top vote getter while Democrat Randy Ollis received the 2nd highest number of votes in the Yancey Commissioners race where  six candidates were vying for one of three seats open on the board.
