East Yancey vs Cane River Basketball Teams Face Off

In their first meeting of the 2012-2013 basketball season Cane River and East Yancey Middle School teams split games last week in Toe River Conference action in Burnsville.
Cane River dominated the Lady Panthers in the girls contest to win going away bay a score of 47-10. Ciera Chandler scored 15 points to lead the Lady Rebels while teammates Hali King contributed 10 points and Haley Elkins chipped in 6.
The Lady Panthers were led by Crystal Hopper, Leeann Peterson and Brianna Hughes who all scored three points apiece.
In the boy’s contest the host Panthers blew open a close game with a big second half to runaway to a 44-30 victory over their cross-town rivals. Hayden Branton and Nick Ballew scored eight points each to pace East Yancey while Trey Robinson added seven.
Cane River was topped by the 11 point performance of Adam Shuford while Caden Fox and Brandon Miller netted seven and six points respectively for the Rebels.Current standings in the girl’s race show Cane River in first place followed by Harris, Avery, East Yancey, Cranberry and Bowman while East Yancey leads the boy’s field followed by Harris, Bowman, Avery, Cranberry and Cane River.
