Mitchell County Heastart Program has 69 children, ages 3-5 enrolled, and approximately 90 siblings that are helped by th Mitchell County Headstart Angel Tree.  The Angel tree project helps give the local children Christmas. Due to hard times in the county there is a greater need but less resources. To adopt an Angel you can visit DT's Blue Ridge Java, Stuart's on the Green, United Community Bank in Spruce Pine or Bakersville. If you can't adopt an Angel, but would like to make a donation you can do that at the United Community Bank in Spruce Pine or Contact Pam Snyder at 688-2199 ext.17 or at pamsnyder40@yahoo.com.  They have volunteers that will do the shopping for you.
