Spruce Pine Watersheds To Be Sold

The Spruce Pine Town Council recently voted to sell the Beaver Creek and Grassy Creek watersheds for $5 million to a group which plans to put them into a conservancy. If ultimately approved, the council would sell a total of 2000 acres but maintain management rights and liability for the water system and access road. Spruce Pine currently gets about 80 percent of its water from the 1600 acre Beaver Creek watershed while the Grassy Creek watershed is no longer in use.
