Exactly one year ago today (11/29/11) Yancey Humane Society began an epic journey with our spay/neuter program, the YHS Cat Spay/Neuter Initiative as it is officially called. Thanks to generous funding by PetSmart Charities, a targeted grant was received by YHS. As of today, we have sent 501 cats to be fixed at a cost of $25,782. Not one Yancey County Resident has paid a dime for the surgery, the cost has been totally covered by grant funds. The number of lives saved is almost countless, if left unaltered these cats would have produced offspring numbering in the millions and millions.
