With a lopsided win over Avery Middle School in the championship game of Toe River Conference girls basketball tournament last week, the Cane River Lady Rebels were able to complete another undefeated season. Cane River topped the Lady Panthers 41-20 in the title game Saturday night in the Rebel’s gym to run their record to 15-0 for the 2012 season.
Ceira Chandler led all scorers with 19 points to top Cane River, connecting on six field goals and seven free throws in the championship game. The Lady Rebels got balanced scoring from the rest of the field with Brinkley Cooper and Hali King adding five points each and Hanna Evans and Haley Elkins netting four points apiece in the win.
Cane River led 26-11 at the half and 32-17 going in to the 4th quarter as the Lady Panthers had a hard time finding their range against the aggressive Lady Rebel defense.
Lady Rebel team members this season were: Alex Boone, Whitney Griffith, Ciera Chandler, Haley Elkins, Brinkley Cooper, Taylor Whitson, Abby Gilley, Hali King, Hayleigh Fox, Kaitlyn Silvers, Summer Wilson, Hannah Evans, Hope Cody, Morgan Peterson and Emmlaee McCurry. The team is coached by randy Laws, Victoria Hensley and Brinkley Fox.
The Bowman Bulldog also finished the season undefeated at 13-0 after a 67-35 win over Avery Middle in the boys title contest Saturday night.
Alex McKinney led the charge for the Bulldogs with 29 points as was also the teams leading rebounder while Justin Greene led the defensive effort and netted 20 points to help the Dogs earn their second ever undefeated regular season and third tournament championship.
