North Carolina Highway Patrol says they will increase patrols today. Troopers report there have been over 5,000 accidents attributed to alcohol impairment in 2012. Through November, N.C. Highway Patrol troopers in Buncombe County investigated 163 alcohol-related collisions, a 16.4 percent increase over the same period in 2011. However, Impaired-driving court cases statewide have dropped from almost 94,000 in 2000 to 68,255 in 2011, Highway Patrol says if you see someone who appears to be driving impaired or erratically contact them by dialing *HP or *47 on your cell phone.
