Details: Donald Stanton, age 74, of Mandan, ND died Friday, January 4th at his home.
Born on May 11, 1938 in Whiting, IN; he was the son of the late Robert and Esther Galles Stanton. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his son; Ted Stanton who passed away in 2012; his sister; Lois Brow; and his brother; Bill Stanton.
Don was raised in Casper, WY and later moved with his family to Mandan, ND where he graduated from Mandan High School on 1956. Don enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1955 and served as a jet aircraft servicer at the Naval Air Base in Adak, Alaska. He was honorably discharged in 1959 and returned to Mandan where he worked as a yardmaster for BNSF Railroad for over forty years. Don enjoyed fishing, golfing, artifacts hunting, following sports, and spending time with his beloved dog, Kola. Following his retirement, Don embraced technology, learning many new things and liked to surf the internet. He was selfless and giving, always willing to help out and give whatever he could. Don will be remembered as a fun loving man with a witty sense of humor who liked to give his friends a hard time.
Don Stanton is survived by his daughters; Jodene Hughes and husband, Ricky of Spruce Pine, NC and Kelly Collins and husband, Tim of Olympia, WA; four grandchildren; Wendy, Heather, Chandler, and Austyn; two great grandchildren; Brenden and Donovan; his sisters; Patti Menard of San Diego and Toni Stanton of Mandan; three brothers; Bob Stanton of Golden Valley, MN; Jack Stanton of San Diego, CA; and Mike Stanton of Castle Rock, Co; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and interment will be on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 1:00 pm in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery will full military honors.
