Details: Ray Saxon of Sweet Tea Drive in the Altapass Community died on Friday, January 11th at his home.
     Born on August 10, 1934 in Randolph County, AL, he was the son of the late Bill and Georgia Whitehead Saxon. Ray was retired from Henredon Furniture of Spruce Pine and was a charter member of the Altapass Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Altapass Baptist Church where he served as the Head Usher and Greeter for twenty-six years.
     Ray loved life and lived it to the fullest. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing golf and fishing.
     Left to cherish Ray’s memories are his wife of fifty-two years; Gladys McKinney Saxon of the home; his son; Russell Saxon of Spruce Pine; his daughters; Vicki Frizzell and husband, Jeff of Spruce Pine and Vanessa Penland and husband, Ed of Spruce Pine; his grandson; Jake Frizzell and wife, Cassie of Spruce Pine; his granddaughter; Emily Penland of Burnsville; his brothers; Billie Saxon and wife, Carldean of Jacksonville, AL; John Saxon and wife, Vivian of Ranburne, AL; and Travis Saxon of Roopville, GA; and his sisters; Josephine Kennedy and husband, Hobart of Heflin, AL; Shirley Bartlett of Clewiston, FL; and Dorothy Harris and husband, Shirl of Ranburne, AL.
     The funeral service for Ray Saxon will be conducted on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 3:00 pm at the Altapass Baptist Church with the Rev’s. Marcus Benfield, Steve Sisk, and Jay Scruggs officiating. Interment will follow in the McKinney Gap cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the church.
     The family would like to say ‘Thank You’ to the staff of Hospice of Mitchell County for their wonderful care of Ray during his illness.
