Arrest Made In Vehicle Scam



A Georgia man has been arrested in Mitchell County for his alleged role in fake eBay Motors site that scammed a Spruce Pine business of nearly $10,000. Spruce Pine Police arrested John Kennedy Muntean, of Duluth, for felony obtaining property by false pretenses. Muntean is accused of setting up a fake eBay web page advertising a 2008 Ford E-series van. It was discovered after the victims had wired over $9800 to a bank account in Duluth that the web site was bogus. Spruce Pine Police learned that the scam had netted Muntean  around $125,000 from a total of nine banks that had been victimized. Muttean turned himself into police on January 17 and was released on a $10,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in Mitchell County District Court On February 15th.
