Storms

In WNC, 5.36 inches of rain fell at Grandfather Mountain. The automatic rain gauge on the North Toe River near Spruce Pine recorded close to 4 inches of rain.  It all started as a low-pressure system that spawned deadly tornadoes in Georgia and then blasted its way east through WNC. Late yesterday Thousands of people lost power in Henderson, Cherokee, Swain and Transylvania counties as high winds whipped through the area.  Overnight power outages have been reported in Mitchell and Yancey Counties. Several areas are still without power this morning. Many folks report it's the worst flooding they've seen since the 2004 hurricanes.
