Three Madison Detention Officers terminated

Two inmates that escaped from the Madison County jail Wednesday night were back in custody 20 hours after they escaped. 24 year old Jonathan Brian Motte, of Marshall, and 20 year old Joseph Emmanuel Norton, escaped shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday by climbing a perimeter security fence.  A Madison Sheriff’s office press release said, “It appears some departmental policy violations did occur which provided easier opportunity for the inmates to escape the facility. “As a result of these violations three detention officers have been terminated and one additional policy will be implemented to ensure the security of the facility and the safety of Madison County citizens.” The Sheriff’s Office said no detention officers assisted the escapees and an investigation continues into the factors that allowed Norton and Motte to escape while in an outdoor recreation facility area at the newly constructed jail compound.
