Pensacola Property Seized In Drug Bust Sold at Auction

The Yancey County Sheriff’s Department is expected to receive around $6500 from the sale of a 2.52-acre tract of land with a home and several out buildings that were seized in a drug bust in Pensacola in 2008. The property, valued at $210,000 was sold recently to the highest bidder at auction for $91,000. At the time of his arrest in 2008, the previous owner of the property on Walt Road, 56-year-old Roger Keith Phillips Sr., was served with federal indictments and seizure of property orders after lengthy investigation by the Yancey Sheriff’s Department and federal authorities led to the seizure of hundreds of pounds of marijuana and no less than a kilogram of methamphetamine linked to his Yancey County home. Philips was sentenced to two ten year sentences for the crime. Yancey Sheriff Gary Banks said that the money his department is set to receive is earmarked to equip two deputies that will be assigned to school patrols through the end of June.
