Details: William Howard Hall of Spruce Pine passed away on April 3rd. He was the oldest child of Howard and Connie McKinney Hall born on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1926. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives Lucy Biddix Hall and Ernestine Doub Hall, infant daughter Rose Mary, his sister, Margaret Robinson and brothers Jack, James and Sidney Hall.
He is survived by wife, Evelyn Hall, of Marion, his children Nelson and wife Liz of Monroe, NC, John and wife Beth of Bakersville, NC, Melanie Murphy and husband Michael of Spruce Pine, and Myron and wife Dee of Spruce Pine. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Nathan (Melissa) Hall, Megan (Cody) McKinney, Stacy Hall, William Hall, Lucy Murphy, Buddy (Johanna) Hall, Michela Murphy and Lynne Hall. He is survived by 8 great grandchildren, 3 step-daughters and 2 step-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters: Kathleen Allen, Martha (Eddie) Williams of Spruce Pine, Mary Lou (Larry) Howell of Burnsville, and brothers: Wayne (Wilma) of Spruce Pine, and Harry (Jann) of Georgia, as well as in-laws: Virginia, Evelyn and Carlene Hall, Billy Joe Robinson, EJ, Forrest, Bud and Wendell Biddix, Agnes Burleson, Faye (Bruce) Wise, Atlas Benton, Linda McKinney, Ann Doub and 21 nieces and nephews.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Technical Sergeant, worked at the VA Hospital in Oteen, NC as a surgical technician and retired from the Blue Ridge Parkway, where he worked as a maintenance supervisor, ranger, administrative assistant and union representative. William loved flowers and gardening, fishing, traveling through the National Parks and photography.
William was a member of Grassy Creek Presbyterian Church. He was a Mason and a member of Vesper Lodge 554 and also a Gideon. He served on the boards of several community service organizations.
The family wishes to thank the staffs of Mitchell House and Brian Center for their generous and kind attention to our father and family.
Following a family burial at McKinney Gap Cemetery, a memorial service will be held at Spruce Pine United Methodist Church at 4:00 p.m on Friday, April 5, 2013. The family will receive friends immediately following the service with a reception at the church.
