Details: Jackie Mathis, age 70, of the Lickskillet Community, passed away on Saturday, April 20th at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Annie Hall Mathis. He was also preceded in death by sisters: Barbara Higgins and Mary Ann Ray and a brother, Buddy Mathis. Jackie worked as a carpenter with Cooper Enterprises and Tyner Construction with his brother, Jimmy Mathis and nephew, Scottie Mathis for many years. He loved to work outside, loved to work in his garden but most of all he loved his family. Jackie was loved by all who knew him.Surviving are his loving wife, Reba Fender Mathis; daughters: Gail Branton and husband, Danny, of Burnsville and Tabatha “Tabby” Mathis and spouse, Tracey Caldwell, of Fort Wayne, IN; sisters: Doris Ownenby and husband, Alvin, and Helen Brackett; brother, Jimmy Mathis and grandchildren: Paul, Nicaela and Hayden Branton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23rd in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. The Rev. Jerry Shelton will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. A private family internment will follow.
