Details: Homer Gouge formerly of the Pigeon Roost Community of Mitchell County passed away into to the arms of our wonderful Lord on Monday, June 3rd after several years of declining health.
     Funeral services will be Friday, June 7th at 2:00PM in the chapel of Henline-Hughes
Funeral Service in Bakersville, NC, with interment to follow in the Lewis Family Cemetery in Unicoi, TN. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  At other times the family will be at the family home at 1218 Pigeon Roost.
    Born May 30, 1921, a son of the late Rev. Gibbs and Louisa Bennett Gouge, he was one of nine children.
     A veteran of the US Army, Mr. Gouge was a life-long farmer and master cattleman and was partial to registered white face. He was also vice president of Gouge Trucking Co.
     Including his brothers and sisters, Mr. Gouge was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Julia Lewis Gouge, in 2007 and a son, Dayton Leece Gouge in 1953.
     Surviving Mr. Gouge are his son Danny Gouge and wife Kay, of Greenville, TN, and his daughter, Mary Brattain and husband Timothy, of Harrisburg.
     Mr. Gouge had a great sense of humor and loved to tell jokes. He was especially gifted with the ability to tell stories,of "Bear Tales", as he would call them, to his five grandchildren, Alana Hollifield and husband Jerry, of Weddington, NC, Dayton Gouge, of Tennessee Don Walsh and wife Sandi, of Polkton, NC, Lacosta Tipton and husband Robbie, of Green Mountain and Julia Bowman and husband Jimmy, of Charlotte, and also to his great-grandchildren, Brittany, Alyssa, Josh, Tyler, Austin, Alex, Amber, Christopher, Carlie, Sophia, Gracyn, Jake and Gauge.
   The family would also like to honor their adopted sister, Cynthia Rhedell Harris, who treated him as her own father whom she lovingly referred to as POP.
