Mountaineer Football Heads into 2013 Season
Despite the fact it was just July 29, high school football practice unofficially got started across the state of North Carolina on Monday, with teams working out in shorts and pads and helmets.
Teams can play in scrimmages and jamborees beginning on Aug. 16 with regular season games beginning on Aug. 23rd.
Mitchell High’s Mountaineers have been working diligently since last football season in the weight room, track and gyms across the county to try and get back to the playoffs and better last year’s mark of 1-10 after finishing with a record of 12-2 the year before.
The Mountaineers will come out of camp, which begins on Monday, and they will take the energy that they have collected and climax with a furious first day of full contact drills on Wednesday August 7, six days into the grueling conditioning process. Come out and see this year’s guys work.
Mitchell will take part in a football Jamboree on Aug. 10, while host Avery County which will be joined by Hampton, Happy Valley and Unaka out of Tenn, while the Mountaineers will true their aim for the season opener on the road at West Wilkes, with a scrimmage against Enka on Aug. 16.
The Mountaineers will test themselves against teams from Cherokee, Brevard, McDowell and North Buncombe before their WHC opener at Owen on October 4.
