Kids Having Fun at Yancey Soccer Events
The recent goalie clinic and summer soccer fest were successful despite all the rain that has inundated Yancey County lately. Twenty players braved the weather to learn the skills of goal keeper. Coach Sam Miller had the goalies practice defending balls from all different positions teaching them the proper ways to shift their feet and hands to block potential goals. As a reward for their hard work, Coach Sam gave each player one shot to get the ball past him into the goal. Coach exemplified perfect technique on all but one shot that was strategically placed in the corner of the goal igniting an outburst of cheer from the players. Thanks Sam for helping our goalies become better players and show greater sportsmanship.
The summer soccer fest held last Saturday was enjoyed by over 40 players despite the early morning rain. Small sided soccer games, goal kick contests, face painting and a pick-up game with players vs. coaches and parents was especially liked by those who played. The U10 – U14 soccer camp was also well attended with some new players signing up for the season. Teams will be picked soon and those players will be contacted. We plan on hosting a soccer camp for all U6-U8 players during the first week of school on Monday Aug. 19, Tuesday Aug. 20 and Thursday Aug. 22 from 6-7 p.m. at the Burnsville Elementary School field. Come ready to run around and have some fun. Teams will be picked shortly after and players contacted. The first games of the season are scheduled to start on Saturday Sept. 7 at Cane River Park with the season closing out on November 2. Check out our facebook page @YCYLA-SOCCER.
