Details: Lillie Mae Hughes, age 90, of the Shoal Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 12th, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late John and Lena Willis Hylemon and wife of the late Jason Hughes, who passed away in 1996. She was also preceded in death by 2 brothers: Tommy and Bruce Hylemon. She worked for a number of years at Burnsville Hosiery and later retired after 16 years of service with Blue Bell. Lillie Mae was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church who loved knitting, quilting, cooking and bowling.
Surviving are her daughters: Rebecca Black of Bakers Creek and Linda Punch and husband Emory, of Shoal Creek; sons: Johnny Hughes and wife, Nina, of Bakers Creek, Larry Hughes and wife, Lynn, of Fairview and Edward Hughes and wife, Wanda, of Shoal Creek; sisters: Octavia Austin of Phipps Creek and Mary Lea Hardin of Lickskillet; brothers: Hoyle Hylemon and wife, Betty, Frank Hylemon and wife, Edith and Kenneth Hylemon and wife, Dottie, all of Lickskillet; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and special caregiver, Loretta.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 15th at
Shoal Creek Baptist Church. Her son, Larry Hughes, Rev. Dick Westbrook, Rev. Grey Fisher and Rev. Harvey Sharpe will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dulaney Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services.
