Visitor Spending up in Area



It looks like visitor spending is up across Western North Carolina and the rest of the state according to an announcement from Gov. Pat McCrory’s office this week. The Governor, and Commerce Secretary Sharron Decker, said that all of the state’s 100 counties saw increases in visitors spending in 2012. The report said that Mitchell County ranked 83rd overall in increases with a 2.3 percent rise in visitor spending, just a slight improvement over Yancey Counties’ rise in visitor spending of 2.1 percent while other mountain counties Avery , up 5.4 percent, Madison, up 5.3 percent , and McDowell up 3.2 percent.
