Governor's Award for a Yancey County Resident

Lloyd Bailey is being presented with The Order of the Long Leaf Pine award this Saturday at The Nu Wray Inn on the square in Burnsville at 2pm. The Order of the Long Leaf Pine is among the most prestigious awards presented by the Governor of North Carolina. The Order of the Long Leaf Pine is presented to individuals who have a proven record of extraordinary service to the state. Contributions to their communities, extra effort in their careers, and many years of service to their organizations are some of the guidelines by which recipients are selected for this award. Lloyd Bailey of Durham, NC, is widely recognized as an authority on the history and genealogy of the Toe River Valley (the counties of Avery, Mitchell, and Yancey in Western North Carolina).  He has published twelve large volumes of the series HERITAGE OF THE TOE RIVER VALLEY and has six more in preparation
