firstname.lastname@example.orgMountain Heritage improved to 2-2 on the young season with an impressive 42-26 win over the Rosman Tigers in Transylvania County this past Friday night.
MHHS senior QB Trevor Robinson had his best outing as a Cougar Friday night, accounting for five of the team’s six touchdowns while rushing for a career high 225 yards.
His backfield mate Dalton Robinson also had a good night carrying the football, rushing for 160-yards and a touchdown on 25 carries as the Cougars rumbled for 406 yards on the ground in the win.
The two teams battled to a 7-7 tie after the first quarter as Robinson scored on a 17 yard run and Tristin McCarty added the PAT and Rosman responded with a 6 yard TD run by Josh Rice and PAT by Tanner Greene.
The score remained tight in the second quarter as Heritage regained the lead on a 6 yard run by Robinson while Rosman responded with a 39 yard run by Tanner Green. Heritage led 14-13 At the break on the strength of a Tristin McCarty extra point.
The Cougars grabbed a 14 point lead with two quick scores in the third quarter, both on one yard runs by Trevor Robinson.
But Rosman did not roll over. The Tigers trimmed the lead to 28-22 with two scores of their own in the third quarter.
The Heritage defense shut the Tigers out of the end zone in the 4th quarter while the offense produced two more scores to secure the non-conference win.
Dalton Robinson broke free for a 10 yard touchdown run early in the final stanza and Trevor Robinson added his 5th rushing TD of the game when he found the end zone from five yards out with less than a minute to play.
Also adding to the overpowering rushing attack by the Cougars were Dalton Cannon, who carried the ball five times for 76 yards and Issac Allen who toed the rock 9 times for 38 yards as the Heritage offensive line owned the line of scrimmage.
Trevor Robinson also had a decent night throwing the football, completing 7 of 13 passes for 81 yards with Dalton Robinson and Jake McClellan snaring three passes each while tight end Drew Hoilman also had a catch.
Heritage will hope to continue its winning ways when West Henderson invades E.L.Briggs Stadium for the Cougar’s annual homecoming game this Friday night. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
