Burnsville Mayor Announces Write-In Candidacy for Council
Longtime Burnsville Mayor Danny McIntosh has announced that he is a "write-in" candidate for a Burnsville town council seat. After choosing not to run for mayor again, the eight year chief elected official has become embroiled in a controversy over the town's zoning ordinance that has been amended to include extensive "design guidelines”. According to McIntosh, the new rules are so restrictive that the town will see many negative effects. McIntosh will be going up against, Ruth Banks, Ron Powell and Tim Tipton for the two available council seats. New voters must be registered by 5 p.m. on Friday October 11 to vote in this election. The main elections office in Yancey County is located at 225 W. Main Street in Burnsville.
