Mayor Danny McIntosh and the Burnsville Town Council approved an annexation request last Thursday for 1.25 acres of the former Avondale parking lot bordering Hwy 19 and West Main Street. The owners of the property say that they have a buyer who wants to put a business at the location. Mayor McIntosh said that the project would be a good case study for the design guidelines for buildings in the town’s three commercial zones that were discussed at the recent town council meeting. At that meeting the mayor delivering more criticism of the recently adopted ordinance after a public hearing was held to establish a Design Review Committee. The mayor wants language in the ordinance exempting residential or single family dwellings from the guidelines while a spokesman for the NC Department of Commerce said that the regulations are designed specifically for commercially zoned areas.
