Joshua Mathis Receives Award for Excellence in Nursing
Joshua Mathis, RN, is the recipient of the DAISY Award for Excellence in Nursing at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. The DAISY Award was created to say thank you to nurses who deliver excellent and compassionate care to their patients. The award was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who was cared for by many extraordinary nurses when he was ill. Healthcare facilities all over the country now participate in the award program.
DAISY Award nominees are nominated by their patients or patients’ families each month. Each winner is presented with the DAISY Award certificate and pin and a sculpture called “The Healer’s Touch” during a surprise ceremony at the hospital. Winners are also highlighted on the DAISY Foundation website.
Joshua was nominated by Belinda Ward, a patient's family member. "Joshua’s thoughtfulness toward his patients brings them comfort during stressful times. Making sure they understand everything that is going on and how things work is incredibly important to Joshua."
