Details: Annabelle "Nannie" Wilson Blanton of White Oak Road, Bakersville, passed away Tuesday Morning, October 29, 2013 at her home.
     A native of Bakersville, Mrs. Blanton lived nearly her entire life in her home community. Born November 21, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert Wilson. She was the youngest of six children, all of which have passed away which include two sisters: Mabel Young and Elsie McKinney and three brothers: Fred, Brown and Deiter Wilson.
     Blanton graduated from Blanton's Business College in Asheville, NC.  It was at college that she met Marcus Blanton who was also attending. They were later married and had a strong and loving relationship that lasted more than 50 years until Mr. Blanton's death in 1992. 
     Mrs. Blanton was a successful business woman, which included a shared business with her husband, Blanton Real Estate and Blanton Insurance Company.  She was also a devoted and active member of Bakersville Baptist Church. She was a proud member of the W.M.U. and was considered by many to be a historian of the church. She was often contacted to provide information about the history of the church and the Town of Bakersville.
     Mrs. Annabelle Blanton is survived by one daughter Marcia McNeill and husband Melvin of Bakersville; one son Alfred Blanton and wife Maxie of Bakersville; one granddaughter Beth Brewer and husband Jeff of Bakersville; one grandson Chad Slagle and wife Gina of Deep Gap; five great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren.
     Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Thursday, October 31st, 2013 in the Bakersville Baptist Church with Larry Greene and Jeff Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in the Bakersville Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church.
     The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Hospice of Mitchell County, 236 Hospital Drive, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
