Municipal Elections Tuesday November 5th

Town elections are coming up tomorrow. The election in Burnsville will be held to fill two town council seats and the office of mayor. Vying for the mayor’s seat are Theresa Coletta, the former Director of the AMY Regional Library System, and longtime Public Works Director Tom Storie, who is now retired from that position. Council members Ron Powell and Ruth Banks have filed for another term on the council. Powell is a retired school teacher and Banks has held positions of Town Clerk, Finance Officer and Tax Collector in the past. Tim Tipton is also on the ballot for the Council. After choosing not to run for mayor again, longtime Burnsville Mayor Danny McIntosh has mounted a "write-in" campaign for a Burnsville town council seat. Voting will take place at the Burnsville Town Center. In Mitchell County elections in both Bakersville and Spruce Pine all candidates are running unopposed.  Bakersville voters will go to the Mitchell County Courthouse and Spruce Pine voters will go to Town Hall. Polls are open from 6:30 am until 7:30 pm.
