It’s November in the mountains and that means many things in Yancey County, not the least of which is the beginning of basketball season.
Heritage Cougar hoops teams will tipoff the 2013-2014 basketball season Tuesday evening beginning with the first in a series of non-conference games against 3A and 4A opponents as they get ready for the always tough Western Highlands Conference.
The Cougars will have a busy first week, traveling to Morganton Tuesday for their first ever meeting on the basketball court with the Patton Panthers while hosting Asheville and North Buncombe on Wednesday and Friday, respectively. JV games get underway at 4:00 p.m.
Scrimmage games this past week against talented Cherokee High teams gave Cougar coaches a chance to see their team in action for the only time before they take the court for real this season.
Come out and show your support this week as the Cougars try can continue their tradition of producing quality basketball teams to represent Yancey County.
