Mitchell School Board to Select 25 Percent of Faculty to Give up Ten
The Mitchell County School Board began the task last week of selecting 25 percent of their faculty to give a monetary incentive to coax them to give up their career status or tenure to comply with recently passed state legislation. The teachers who are chosen to give up tenure will receive an extra $5,000 over the course of four years. The county plans to begin by asking faculty members if they are interested in giving up their tenure status for the raise. Those who choose not to do so will be taken out of the pool of teachers being considered. Mitchell School Superintendant Dr. Rick Spurling must present a list of faculty to be considered for the plan by June 2014.
