Humpback Mountain Fire Burns Portion of Family Home
The cause of a Sunday morning fire on Wallace Avenue in the Humpback Mountain section of Mitchell County is still under investigation. Parkway Fire Department got the emergency call around 11:00 a.m. Sunday morning and quickly responded to the scene where firefighters found flames and smoke engulfing a portion of the structure. With help from fire departments from Mitchell, Avery and McDowell Counties working on the scene, firefighters were able to save a major portion of the house although one of four dogs in the home died after efforts by animal rescue to resuscitate failed. No one was home at the time of the fire according to authorities who reported no other injuries during the incident.
