Unemployment Rates for November Show Some Progress
North Carolina’s unemployment rate for November was 6.9 percent. Locally, with the exception of Avery County in which the unemployment rate rose from 7.8 percent in October to 8.2 percent in November, unemployment rates fell modestly. In Yancey County the unemployment rate dropped from 8.1 to 8.0 percent, in Mitchell it fell from 9.0 to 8.9 percent and Madison County saw its rate drop from 5.7 to 5.3 percent. In November McDowell’s unemployment rate fell to 7.9 from 8.4 percent. Across the state, Scotland County had the highest rate at 13.5 percent and Orange County the lowest at 4.3 percent.
