In spite of a number of missed days of school in both Mitchell and Yancey Counties over the past few weeks due to the weather, there are currently no changes at this point that would force students to make up snow days with classes on Saturday. Both school systems have snow days built into their schedules. Mitchell County’s current school calendar shows that they still have 185 student days and 14 days to be used as snow days. They can meet the 1025 hour requirement easily with 175 student days according to Chad Calhoun with Mitchell County Schools. Mitchell has three Teacher Work Days, one No Day (adds on to end of year) and then as a last resort 10 student days left to work with. In Yancey the snow has pushed the last day of school up to June 3rd according to the updated school calendar.
