Mitchell Seniors Recognized

On January 16 members of the Rotary Club of Spruce Pine welcomed Alexandra Sirois, as one of the January Seniors of the Month from Mitchell High School. Through a power point presentation, Alexandra told of her passion for cheerleading and chronicled her experiences as a member of the Junior Varsity squad through her current involvement. As a rising junior, she attended cheerleading camp at NCSU and won the All-American Cheerleader Award which led to her being on the team that cheered at the NFL Pro-Bowl in Hawaii. She competed in the National Scholarship Invitational and ranked second place in the tumbling division. For her senior project, she was an assistant coach for Harris Middle School’s Cheer Team. This was a rewarding experience for Alexandra as she saw the sport from a different perspective. Because of her academic load, Alexandra is not cheering this year, but she is involved with a special needs team. She shared a video of one of her competitions in which her team won fifth place. She plans to pursue a degree in engineering and to continue with her cheerleading at college. She is enthusiastic about the future and says that the sport has built her self-confidence. Grant Sparks, MHS Counselor, added that Alexandra is an exceptional math student. Spruce Pine Rotarians are pleased to recognize this outstanding student and extend our best wishes as she pursues her goals.
