Yancey Man Arrested for Failure to Register as Sex Offender
The Yancey County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender unit has arrested Ivan “Van” Dario Roldan of 76 South Toe River Rd and charged him with one count of failure to register as a sex offender, which is a felony in NC. Sheriff Gary Banks says that this arrest is part of the Sheriff’s Office on-going efforts to closely monitor sex offenders in Yancey County. “If sex offenders are going to live in Yancey County, they should know that they are going to be monitored and expected to abide by the law,” said Sheriff Banks. Officers received a tip that Mr. Roldan was living in Yancey County and was a registered sex offender in Florida but had failed to register with North Carolina as required by general statute. A subsequent investigation by Sheriff Deputies revealed that Mr. Roldan had indeed been living un-registered in Yancey County for a period longer than the three days that the North Carolina Statute gives him to register. On Thursday Jan 30th 2014 Sheriff Deputies arrested Mr. Roldan without incident and he was placed in The Yancey County Jail under a $25,000 secured bond. Mr. Roldan is scheduled to appear in court on May 21st.
