Help Save Historic Penland Post Office

A group of people are backing an effort to raise money to renovate the historic Penland Post Office building in Mitchell County. The nonprofit group has raised $50,000 so far, including a $10,000 grant, and has also had the building placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The organization is asking the public to show their support by donating their time and money and will be seeking new members at a meeting planned for 7 p.m., March 27th at the Ridgway Building on the campus of Penland School of Crafts. People interested in helping the cause can also contribute by purchasing stamps at the Penland Post Office and by shopping at the organization’s rummage stall at The Market in downtown Spruce Pine. For more information about the project visit or call 828-765-6539.
