The Madison County Election Board has been working to decide if a Sheriff's Candidate is eligible to run in the upcoming election. The controversy surrounds Candidate John Ledford as some Residents petitioned the local Broad of Elections claiming John Ledford can't legally run for that office. The petitioners say there's no utility bill in Ledford's name at the Madison County address and didn't stay there long enough to qualify him as a resident. The board looked at evidence and heard witnesses for nearly six hours yesterday. They agreed unanimously to reject the petition and approve his candidacy. Some county officials say this argument is likely to be appealed to the State Board of Elections.
