Helping Preserve the Blue Ridge Parkway

On Thursday, March 6, at the weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Spruce Pine, Rusty Painter, Land Protection Director for the Conservation Trust for North Carolina, shared information about this Raleigh-based non-profit organization. He was a guest of Rotarian Bill Carson of the Orchard at Altapass, which is partnering with the CTNC in preserving the Orchard land with a permanent Conservation Easement. Mr. Painter explained the mission of CTNC as twofold: It is an umbrella organization representing all Conservation Trusts in NC and also has specific responsibility for land along the Blue Ridge Parkway. He described the approximately 3000 acres surrounding Altapass that the CTNC has permanently protected. He and others of CTNC have made a lasting legacy in preserving our priceless landscape right here in our neighborhood, thanks to Bill Carson
