(Press Release from Mitchell Sheriff's Department)
Mitchell County Deputies have arrested a Henderson County man on felony drug charges. William Allen Cason, age 18, of 18 Willis Way, Fletcher is charged with possession of methamphetamine after traffic stop.
Captain R.V. Wiseman observed Cason and a female leaving the area where a lot of drug activity takes place. Captain Wiseman, Lt. J.A. Biddix, and Deputy D.S. Buchanan stopped the vehicle on the US19E Bypass in Spruce Pine.
Deputy Buchanan approached the female driver and Captain Wiseman along with Lt. Biddix made contact with Cason. Both the individuals were extremely nervous. Cason did not have any type of identification. Cason gave deputies consent to search his person.
Lt. Biddix located a small black box in Cason’s coat pocket which contained several little plastic bags with meth residue.
The female who owned the car then gave deputes consent to search the vehicle. Deputies located a black backpack in the right rear front of the vehicle. Inside the backpack was another box which contained three small plastic bags of meth, several syringes, digital scales, and glass pipes.
Cason advised the backpack and all the meth and paraphernalia belonged to him.
Captain Wiseman obtained warrants on Cason for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Cason is being held in jail on a $25,000.00 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 17, 2014.
Sheriff Street said he appreciated his deputies being so aggressive in getting these illegal drugs off the streets of Mitchell County. Sheriff Street went on to say due to the work load his deputies have with the volume of calls, civil papers, warrants, having to transport prisoners, and work court most of their drug cases are made on their own time and days off.
Sheriff Street said anyone with information on illegal drugs could contact the Sheriff’s Office at 828/688-3982. All calls will be confidential.
