The Yancey History Association will be holding their Opening Day Ceremony Saturday April 5th at 11:00am on the grounds of the McElroy House/Rush Wray Museum with a flag raising and special guest speaker, Burnsville Mayor Theresa Coletta. In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War Battle of Burnsville, they will be honoring the memory of the men and women who took part in the raids and skirmish in Burnsville in April 1864 and extend a special invitation to the descendants of those who participated on both sides. New exhibits inside the museum highlight the roles of women during the Civil War and the importance of music for soldiers and civilians. The event is free and open to the public.
