There’s a lot happening in our area this weekend. The Yancey History Association celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Burnsville with events today, Saturday and Sunday. Tonight Confederate Railroad will be in concert at the Burnsville Town Center. The Parkway Playhouse is presenting the Burnsville Little Theater’s production of the prize winning comedy, Harvey, tonight and Saturday and Sunday. The Burnsville Metric rolls out tomorrow beginning at 9a.m. on the Burnsville Town Square. The ride takes bicyclists through Burnsville, Egypt-Ramsey, Green Mountain and Bakersville. Also on Saturday the Yancey Humane Society will be holding a Rabies Clinic. And Sunday evening Traditional Voices Group’s Sweet and Sassy Dessert Social will be held at the Burnsville Town Center.
In Mitchell County the Annual Fire on the Mountain Blacksmith Festival is Saturday in downtown Spruce Pine. Also on Saturday the Mitchell County Historical Society Season Opener features a day of baseball related activities with Hall of Famer Gaylord Perry at Gouge Elementary Field. At 7:00pm at the Historic Mitchell County Courthouse there will be an auction of Gaylord Perry memorabilia, door prizes and a showing of the feature film "Field of Dreams".
A 5K Race and 1 Mile Fun Run for Down Syndrome Awareness will be held Saturday at Riverside Park in Spruce Pine. And both counties will participate in Drug Take-Back Event Saturday from 10:00am-2:00 at CVS Pharmacy Parking Lot in Spruce Pine, Bakersville Pharmacy, and The Prescription Pad in Burnsville.
