High Peaks Explores Lost Cove May 3

The High Peaks Trail Association will lead hikers into the historic abandoned community of Lost Cove on May 3. Settled during or shortly after the Civil War, Lost Cove is nestled above the Nolichucky River, and can only be reached on foot.

This strenuous hike of about 7.5 miles will descend about 1,200 feet in elevation to visit the Lost Cove ruins, buildings and cemetery, followed by a 1,200-foot climb back to our starting point.

Bring a lunch, plenty of water and leashed dogs if you choose. Hikers will meet on the Burnsville Town Square at 8:30 a.m.  Van transportation will be provided for $5 per person. Please check the club’s website, www.nchighpeaks.org, or Facebook page for last-minute changes due to weather.

Contact hike leader John Whitehouse at 828-682-3217 or trails@nchighpeaks.orgif you have any questions or would like to reserve a spot on the van.
