Visitation Restrictions Continue

Managers at Brookside Rehabilitation and Care, in Burnsville, notified the Health Department of an illness making people sick, last Wednesday.  Test were made and submitted to the state lab, which verified the disease was norovirus.  Brookside then closed its doors to visitors, and restricted the residents from leaving the facility.  The primary threat to residents is dehydration, so the staff is being sure residents have plenty to drink. Restricting visitation and keeping residents in the facility are both aimed at limiting the spread of the disease in the community. The Yancey Health Department says the norovirus should run its course, and that visitation should be restored soon.
