Harris Middle School Instructor and Students Honored at NC National History Day Competition

The recent NC National History Day Competition in Raleigh yielded some impressive awards for Mitchell County Schools in general and for Harris Middle School in particular.  HMS instructor Chris Hollifield was awarded the Joseph B. Hughes Award for Excellence in History.  Chris has taught history at Harris for many years and was instrumental in the participation of MCS students in the NHD competition.  HMS student Amanda Biddix was the winner in the Individual Documentary category for her age group.  Amanda is in the 8th grade at HMS and become a two time winner as she won the second place award and participated in the national competition last year.  James Biddix, a 6th grade student at HMS and Amanda’s brother, came in 2nd place in the Individual Website category.  Both Amanda and James will go on to represent Mitchell County Schools in the national competition at the University of Maryland in College Park on June 15-19.  The administration, faculty and staff of Mitchell County Schools would like to say congratulations to Mr. Hollifield, Amanda Biddix and James Biddix for this great accomplishment.
