Details: Edgar Wheeler of Pine Swamp Road went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 7th at his home surrounded by his family.
A native of Yancey County he was a son of the late John Moss and Rose Ella Berry Wheeler. Edgar was also preceded in death by 4 children: an infant, Michael, Curtis and Floyd Edward Wheeler; 2 sisters: Mozelle Webb and Veo Byrd; 2 brothers: Lloyd and Boyd Wheeler.
Edgar loved singing gospel music, serving the Lord in church and nursing home services regularly throughout the area. He was self-taught in music, which inspired many with his talents having taught guitar and harmony. He was a loving Daddy and Grand-Paw.
Surviving are 9 children: Earmel Wheeler (Deborah), Brenda Wheeler, Delane Wheeler (Sherry) all of Burnsville, Donna Agner (Barry) of Raleigh, Kathy Ayers (Royce), Jimmy Wheeler, Priscilla Wheeler, Loretta Allen (Donnie) all of Burnsville and Angela Wheeler of Mitchell County; 24 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sister: Alene Silvers (Reece); a brother, Floyd Wheeler (Leatha) of Burnsville; and special friends: Estelene Bennett and Rev. James Beaver and The Shining Light Quartet.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday in Higgins Free Will Baptist Church of which he was a member. Revs. James Beaver, Junior Peterson and Denny Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in the Higgins Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Friday at Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home where the body will remain until taken to the church to lie in state one hour prior to the service.
