Deyton 3rd Grade Student Artwork Chosen for Statewide Calendar
Josie Houchard, a third grade student at Deyton Elementary School, recently had her artistic entry selected as one of 13 to be featured in the 2014-15 NC Farm to School calendar.
The contest was open to all North Carolina public school students in grades kindergarten through five. Over 3,285 entries were submitted. Entries were separated based on the student’s grade level and judged separately by grade until the final round of judging.
An awards reception will be held Friday, May 16 during the Got to Be NC Festival at the NC Fairgrounds location. The reception will be held in the upper level of the Scott Building at 11 a.m. Obviously, Josie's very proud parents, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Morgen Houchard and Harris Middle School instructor Mrs. Tamara Houchard, as well DES principal Mr. Gary Moore and MCS Child Nutrition Director, Mrs. Heather Calhoun, have been invited to attend
The NC Farm to School program has been supplying school cafeterias across the state with fresh, North Carolina grown produce since 1997. Josie's artwork will be featured in the third annual calendar promoting this program.
Mitchell County Schools is exceptionally proud of Josie and her impressive accomplishment.
