Weekend Events in Burnsville



On Friday, May 23, from 5 to 7pm, the Town of Burnsville will celebrate public arts in a presentation and recognition ceremony at the Burnsville Town Center. Following brief introductions, the public is invited to view the work and meet the artists who made it happen. “Stars on the Square” with late night store openings and a Rock and Roll concert sponsored by the US Marine Corps will follow the event. On Saturday, May 24 the Yancey History Association and Toe River Arts Council will celebrate the region’s mountain heritage with a day of activities, demonstrations, and story telling on the YHA grounds behind the TRAC Gallery. The Blue Ridge Heritage Day will run from 11am to 4pm. Featured among the many old timey crafts booths will be participants and instructors in TRAC’s Traditional Arts Program for Students, a weekly teaching and learning experience for grades 4-8. Instructors Ron Powell, Don Pedi, Terry McKinney, and Jared McQueen will join their kids in bringing mountain music to life. The Toe River Chamber Ensemble will hold its spring concert at the First Baptist Church in Burnsville on Tuesday, May 27 at 7:30pm. The concert that will feature several full orchestra selections, is free and open to the public.
