The North Carolina Mineral and Gem Festival will move for this year’s event from the Pinebridge Coliseum to the former Food Lion Building at the Grassy Creek Shopping Center. The accompanying outdoor festival will still take place at the Parkway Fire Department and the wholesale show will be held at the Tri-County Christian School this year. The Mitchell County Chamber of Commerce has sponsored the event since the early 1950’s and the show is the county’s largest economic event in terms of revenue for area restaurants, motels and other area businesses. The Pinebridge Coliseum was deemed unusable for the event this year after an inspection by the county building inspector. The Gem Show will run from July 29th to August 3rd.
