Students Use Therapy Balls for Chairs

Second Grade students at South Toe Elementary are bouncing toward academic achievement.  Ms. Cripps’s second grade class received a grant from the Yancey County Schools Foundation to replace stationary seating with therapy ball chairs.  Students now sit on balls chairs with tiny feet.  The chairs help students get their wiggles out by encouraging subtle bouncing and rocking movement without getting up from their seats.  The seats facilitate paying attention, sitting up straighter, and also strengthen back muscles.  Students use their natural energy and need for movement in a positive way, constantly moving to maintain balance.  The class is grateful to the Yancey County Schools Foundation for sponsoring the efforts of students in Yancey County to learn in fun and exciting ways.
