Join High Peaks for Mt. Mitchell Stroll July 13
Join the High Peaks Trail Association for a stroll on the East’s highest mountain, Mt. Mitchell, on Sunday, July 13. This 1.5-mile jaunt will include a 500-foot elevation change, although we will follow a different, easier route than last year’s stroll.
To join in the fun, meet at the Burnsville Town Square at 1 p.m. We will take a Yancey County Transportation van for a fee of $5 per person. Please remember that pets aren’t allowed on the county vans.
The stroll will include a visit to the summit of Mount Mitchell and a discussion of landmarks, geology and history, and will conclude at the Mt. Mitchell restaurant. Please bring water, snacks and warm clothes as the weather on Mt. Mitchell can be surprisingly cool even in summer. The van should return the group to the Town Square by 5 p.m.
Contact stroll leader Jake Blood at firstname.lastname@example.org or 284-6878 to reserve your seat on the van. As always, please check the club’s website,www.nchighpeaks.org, or Facebook page for last-minute changes due to weather.
